Otto Orf & Futsal

OTTO ORF - is a former 21 year professional indoor, outdoor and futsal goalkeeper. His career has taken him from his hometown of Buffalo, NY to Boston, Columbus, Toronto, Ft. Wayne, San Diego, Chicago, Orlando and then eventually to Cleveland where he has resided since 1989. Otto created HandsOnSoccer camps in 1991, the HandsOnSports Foundation 501.c3 in 2006, co-founded the Great Lakes Futsal futsal leagues in 2007 and most recently has founded Heart and Sole Futsal Academy in 2014 to provide the highest level of instruction and competition for aspiring futsal and soccer players in NE Ohio.

1996, Otto Orf is chosen as the US Men’s National Futsal Team goalkeeper and wins the gold medal at the first CONCACAF Futsal Competition in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Orf was awarded the goalkeeper of the tournament as the US team qualified to compete in the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Segovia, Spain 1996. 

• 1997- 2003, Orf remains with USMNFT for the 2000 CONCACAF in Heredia, Costa Rica and his last tour with the team at age 40 was in 2003 as the US Team won the gold medal at the Futsal Gold Cup competition in Anaheim, CA.
• In 2007 Chris Dore and Otto Orf create the Great Lakes Futsal League (formerly Cleveland Futsal League) for 8 years have been growing the league from 65 teams in one location it’s first year to 3 locations and over 300 teams each winter.
• 2007-present. GLF hosts an annual Futsal Referee certification course each of the past 5 years and use only USSF certified futsal officials in our competitions.
• HOS Futsal has exposed hundreds of boys and girls to a fantastic Brazilian Futsal expert, Heloisa Oliveira, spending the first $7,000 raised by the HOSF foundation applying legally for her Visa only to be denied by the US Dept. of Immigration.
• 2008, The HandsOnSports Foundation creates Project Retread collecting used soccer shoes and balls from suburban soccer leagues and delivering them to children worldwide, specifically adopting 6 schools in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. In the past 3 years HOSF has delivered over 1,500 pair of shoes, hundreds of balls, food processor & classroom fans to at risk children. We are also working with the Costa Rican soccer program and corporations to begin taking American children to Costa Rica for trips incorporating mission work, ecotourism and futsal.
• 2009, Great Lakes Futsal brings US National Futsal Team head coach Keith Tozer to Cleveland to instruct our children and coaches.
• 2009-present. HandsOnSports Foundation (HOSF), has taken youth teams to the US Youth Futsal National Championships in Kansas City winning 10 national titles in the past 5 years. We also traveled with 2 high school teams to Canada’s first international Futsal Invitational Tournament in Toronto.
• 2009-present, Great Lakes Futsal acquires the US Youth Futsal Regional Tournament which is held during Martin Luther King Day weekend in January each year.
• 2010-present, Otto Orf creates and posts instructional/informational futsal videos to help teach and promote the proper methods of futsal play. Coaches and players get the most out of their winter soccer play and reap large rewards when they return to outdoor soccer play in the spring.
• October 2011, Otto was asked to assist coach Tozer in training the US Men's National Futsal team in Torrence, CA in preparation for the Futsal Grand Prix competition in Manaos, Brazil.
• September 5-13, 2012, Otto traveled to Spain with a 6 man US Youth Futsal delegation to learn how they run their youth academies and take classes to receive a diploma from the Spanish futsal licensing program under the guidance of Azcar Lugo instructors.
• September 2012, HOSF begins the 5th semester (3rd year) working with former Cleveland Browns coaching legend Sam Rutigliano's foundation, Coach Sam's Inner Circle. Teaching the game of futsal to the children of Robert H. Jamison elementary on Cleveland's East side as part of a literacy program we are exposing these children to a new and international game. The programs success has won additional funding affording expansion to a second school this December.
• April 2013, HOSF delivers hundreds of futsal and soccer balls, shoes and uniforms to children from 6 Costa Rican schools at the rehabilitation of the outdoor futsal court in Huacas, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Otto also visits with the former Costa Rican National Team captain and now head coach to arrange future trips with youth teams to Costa Rica.
• September 2013, Great Lakes Futsal is awarded one of only 4, ID Camps for the US Men's National Futsal Team to be held right here in NE Ohio.
• June 2013, the first USYF Futsal Summit is held and directed by Keith Tozer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in conjunction with US National Team training camp. During this gathering Otto Orf become son of 5 regional directors for US Youth Futsal.
• September 2013, HOSF’s most significant project to date is completed on September 29th and the court is officially opened by US National Futsal Team coach Keith Tozer. Through the Inner City Futsal Initiative, HOSF has secured the use of park space in the city of Akron and completed the renovation of the first public access futsal court of it's kind. Instructional programming and equipment for the children will be provided by professionals and former US National Futsal Team members through funding raised at the Otto Orf Charity Golf Classic, the Firestone Softball Showdown, private/corporate donors and grant monies received in 2013.
• October 2013, Otto attends the first Futsal Coaching Certificate Course held in the US and assists in compiling the information for this coaching curriculum with US National Team coach and FIFA Futsal Instructors Keith Tozer and Constantine Konstin and Jon Parry former 1996 US Futsal teammate and director of Unites States Youth Futsal.
• January 2014, Otto Orf becomes US Youth Futsal Great Lakes Regional Director. Great Lakes Futsal hosts a regional tournament with 93 teams representing 7 states, 8 boys divisions, 6 girls divisions and a men’s open division.
• February 2014, Otto coaches the ‘Futsaldiers’ (St. Louis, MO) Men’s Open Division team to the Championship final match.
• June 2014, Otto Orf presents on the topic, ’Youth Futsal Camps and Clinics’ at the 2nd Annual Futsal Summit held in Milwaukee, WI. Also attends US vs France international friendly match.
• July 2014, Otto Orf selects 3 regional coaches and takes 6 Great Lakes Regional Teams to Kansas City for the first ever US Youth Futsal National ID Teams selection. 18.2% of the first ever USYF National Teams are Great Lakes Region players.
• August 2014, Otto Orf and Chris Booker take a Boys 97-98’ team to the first ever USA Futsal World Championships at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.

  • September 2014, Otto Orf creates new company producing Futsal specific equipment and coaching aids and opens new website named, FutsalFactory.com.
  • October 2014, Otto Orf directs the US Youth Futsal goalkeepers in Massachusetts’s identification camp.
  • November 2014, Great Lakes Futsal hosts the largest ever futsal-coaching course in the United States to date. In conjunction the largest ever player identification camp hosted 182 boys and girls from 7 states.
  • December 2014, Otto Orf is invited by CONCACAF to be part of the coaching staff to write the first ever CONCACAF Futsal Coaching curriculum. While in San Jose Costa Rica the coaching staff attends the FIFA Futsal V's, an international Women’s Futsal Championship including national teams from Japan, Russia, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
  • December 2014, Otto Orf is selected as the director of the USYF Boys Futsal national Teams. These teams competed with the girls in the first ever USYF International Competition in Toronto, Canada.
  • January 2015, Great Lakes Futsal Hosts the largest Great Lakes Futsal Regional with 112 teams from 6 states converging on Akron, OH for the MLK Day Weekend.
  • March 2015, Otto Orf joins the Professional Futsal League coaching staff and assists in the player combine and as an assistant against FC Barcelona and Team Mexico during the inaugural PFL event in Frisco, TX.
  • July 2015, Rubber City Sports Group officially signs a contract to operate the newly renovated Goodyear Hall in Akron, OH. A new futsal academy and professional futsal franchise will play out of the facility in addition to youth futsal leagues and training programs.
  • July 2015, Otto Orf directs the Great Lakes Region coaching staff and players as they tryout for the USYF 2015 Youth National Teams in Overland Park, Kansas.
  • July 2015, Otto Orf organizes the first Central American trip for 6 USYF youth National Teams and will direct the girl’s teams against Costa Rica’s top squad in each age.
  • August 2015, Otto Orf rejoins the PFL coaching staff to help run and coach the second official professional player combine and the exhibition games between TEAM USA and Brazilian teams in the PFL Super Copa in Orlando, Florida.
  • May 2016, “Zego’ 4-0 Futsal Coaching Certification course in Grand Rapids Michigan.
  • June 2016, Directed first ever USYF State Futsal ID trial, Albuquerque, NM.
  • July 2016, USYF Director of Goalkeeping and u18 Boys, Medellin, Colombia.
